The impact of outsourcing on in-house staff morale has long been a topic of debate. In one of the survey’s more surprising findings, 64 percent of the respondents say outsourcing has had no effect on their departments’ morale. Nineteen percent of the managers say outsourcing certain tasks actually has boosted staff morale.
Managers also have debated the most effective instances for outsourcing. The survey found that the most outsourced tasks in maintenance and engineering departments are: roofing inspections and repair; HVAC system testing, inspection and repair; and electrical system testing, inspection and repair.
“Most maintenance organizations are going to be happier because they don’t have to do that stuff,” Cowley says.
