Dave Lubach: Make Mom Proud. Win an FMD Achievement Awardtest

By Dave Lubach, Associate Editor

April 2014

At some point in your childhood, you probably brought home a drawing from school that your mom hung on the refrigerator for everyone to see.

As a youngster, you beamed with joy, proud of your work and ecstatic someone noticed the results. Imagine spreading that feeling around your entire department. To help you recreate that experience and help others share the emotion, we created the Facility Maintenance Decisions Achievement Awards. Each year, we spotlight eight maintenance and engineering departments at institutional and commercial facilities across the country with an achievement award. The awards offer an opportunity to reward those departments that demonstrate the intelligence, skill, ingenuity, and resourcefulness required to overcome hurdles and deliver tangible results for their organizations.

The Achievement Awards recognize notable achievement in four categories: Sustainability, Renovations & Retrofits, Financial Management, and Personnel Management.

What kinds of entries and projects are the judges looking for? Those that use creativity and resourcefulness, deliver impressive bottom-line benefits, and demonstrate the central role departments play in the long-term success of organizations.

Those drawings of stick figures that impressed your mom will not cut it here. But she still will be proud of you if you win.
