How To Safeguard Workers From Falls
By Jeffery C. Camplin, - November 2008 - Maintenance & Operations
Maintenance managers have a number of options for protecting workers from falls. They include conventional systems, such as guardrails, safety nets, and personal fall-protection systems, fall-arrest systems, positioning systems, and travel-restraint systems. Proper training and the use of safe work practices can increase the effectiveness of this equipment.
Managers should include training requirements for walking and work-surface hazards, such as slips, trips, and falls, as well as for fall-protection procedures, personal protective equipment, proper use of ladders and scaffolding, and safe operation of powered platforms and personnel lifts.
