An independent school in Calabasas is looking for a Director of Physical Plant. This position performs diversified management and coordination functions and helps insure, along with the Director of Facilities and Construction, responsive, timely and thorough responses to the needs of the School community for physical plant and event support. This position is responsible for the management of personnel, finances, equipment, the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures related to the maintenance and repair of the campus buildings and grounds, and operation of utility systems.
The Director of Physical Plant interacts with other departments, Administrators, Faculty and Staff, and administer all aspects of the Physical Plant Department. This individual will utilize various computer systems/software appropriate for the administrative management of Physical Plant and operation of building systems plus have extensive contact outside vendors to obtain price quotations, determine status on orders, and follow up on problem areas. The successful candidate will also have a successful track record of consulting with colleagues on work orders, providing requested information, and resolving problems working together with the Director of Facilities.
This Director will also coordinate ordering and inventory levels with appropriate users, purchasing and outside vendors and is also responsible for the formulation of the departmental budget requests and for administering all human resource management policies and procedures as they pertain to the Physical Plant Department. The Director of Physical Plant delegates to and holds subordinates responsible for satisfactory performance of assignments and encourages subordinates to take greater personal responsibility for their areas, thereby improving their professional standing. The Director works to create a safe campus environment at all times, is responsible for requisition of inventory control, and maintenance of divisional equipment and supplies and approves purchasing of maintenance supplies and equipment in concert with Director of Facilities and Construction. The Director of Physical Plant provides leadership and support to the Assistant Director of Physical Plant and the Evening Event Manager. Additional duties as assigned.
Must possess the following minimum experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Minimum of three (3) years experience in a Physical Plant Senior Management Position preferably in a Maintenance, Physical Plant, or Facilities Department. Five (5) years experience in Physical Plant Senior Management is desirable.
• Be self-directed, detail and customer service oriented. Must have strong colleague and team relationship skills. Must have a professional demeanor with excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in coordinating small projects, repairs and working with a team on large projects.
• Strong experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Grounds, and the Custodial trades.
• Be able to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, stoop, and bend, must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds unassisted, work in a variety of different conditions, including extreme weather.
• Proficiency in School Facility Management Software or CMMS. School Dude software is desirable.
• A strong track record of management and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
• Will be responsible for a Facilities Department response to emergency situations on a 24/7 basis.
