NEMA Premium® Efficiency Standards are increasing December 19, 2010

Significant changes in motor efficiency standards were made by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) in conjunction with the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. They recommend new motor efficiency regulations covering both general purpose and definite and special purpose electrical motors. As a result, NEMA Premium motors manufactured after December 19, 2010, will have a higher baseline efficiency rating than they do currently.

Act now to take advantage of Xcel Energy's rebates to reduce your equipment cost.

To help you during this transition to the new NEMA standards, Xcel Energy will continue to offer our Minnesota customers rebates through December 31, 2011, for motors manufactured prior to December 19, 2010, that meet or exceed the NEMA Premium efficiency minimums for motors. Xcel Energy currently offers rebates for Enhanced NEMA Premium motors that already qualify under the new manufacturing guidelines taking effect after December 19, 2010.

What will happen to our rebate levels in 2012?

Early in 2011, Xcel Energy will decide if we will continue to offer NEMA Premium motor rebates in 2012. Even if we discontinue our current NEMA Premium motor rebates in 2012, our Enhanced NEMA Premium motor rebates cover motors that qualify under the new manufacturing guidelines.
