FMI, the nation's largest provider of management consulting to the worldwide construction industry, confirmed that implementing project management software not only affects project controls, improves visibility and standardizes processes but also is a competitive advantage. The study, commissioned by Meridian Systems, reported that the most common business challenges that originally drove firms to implement a formal capital project management solution included a lack of document control and a need to standardize project management practices across organizations.

The survey also found that:

  • The criteria most sought after in a project management system were flexibility, ease of use, and functionality
  • With a project management system in place, respondents experienced overall improvement in project controls due to better communication
  • More than 80 percent of respondents cited contract and change management and document management as the most highly used function within their system

Here are just a few of the questions answered in this important survey:

  • Which software characteristics were important when selecting a specific solution?
  • Describe the organizational-level benefits your organization has received from implementing a formal capital project management system.
  • Describe the project-level benefits your organization has received from using a formal capital project management system.
